“Goodbye To Myself”

(2022)

“The new song is called, ‘Goodbye to Myself.’ It’s one of those songs that came really quickly—not every song does that. Some stuff I feel I really have to work at and set aside for years. This song was not like that, it came out really, really quickly. This new single was recorded on my iPhone. I make recordings of every new song I write, just to have them for the archive. And then I listen to them obsessively, which is how I usually memorize the words. And this recording felt special enough that I sent it over to Jason Brown at Starling Studios in Saratoga Springs to be mastered. It reminds me of how I started out in 2004/2005, burning CDs of what were essentially voice memo recordings of my songs for friends. The audio quality wasn’t great, but everyone really liked the songs, and that’s how everyone got to know me and my music before I started playing live.

“I’ve always maintained that if the songwriting is good, people will listen. So that’s what I’ve done here. The performance is pretty raw. It was my first time singing through the whole song after I’d written it. It was definitely after midnight. And that’s how it’s being released. I’m really happy with the final product. As we were talking before over on Facebook, it’s written on a nylon-string guitar, which is not my normal instrument.”
