Classtime for String Orchestra

  (2006)

Synopsis

This piece involves a fair amount of acting on the part of both the string players and the conductor. The work is essentially a theatrical performance that shows a high school orchestra behaving and playing poorly in rehearsal. The piece references major composers (Glass and Cage, to name two) and my own name and has the orchestra rehearsing excerpts which resemble works by these composers. The piece also features a lot of spoken dialogue between the players and the conductor, asking stupid questions of each other, asking to have their instruments tuned, and other examples of poor behavior. The piece ends with the enraged conductor walking off the stage.
