Setting of the Cummings poem of the same name (no. 52 in the 100 Poems project).
The text of the poem is broken into 5 sections, each section begin given a duration. The percussionist is given 5 staves of music, each being paired with a section of the text. The percussionist’s material is given without individual note durations, and therefore he may choose to play the material within each section at a pace determined by him, though each section is given a duration. Pedal markings, dynamics, and some articulations are given. The speaker is only instructed to read the poem in an even-paced, matter-of-fact way, merely relaying the events detailed therein.
