String Quartet No. 4

  (2005)

Synopsis

From the score:

I. For the opening movement, players will unpack their purposely untuned instruments and begin to tune them. After each player has tuned his instrument, he will look at the Violin I. Players will then bring out chairs and stands on which no music will be placed.

II. Each player will, at his own leisure, begin to play whatever he feels like as long as it following these specifications with respect to key signature: Violin I: C; Violin II: D; Viola: G; Cello: B-flat. No pitches outside of those key signatures maybe used.  After some time, the Violin I will give a signal for all players to cease performing.

III. Players will now detune their instruments while plucking the strings to produce glissandi. Player will then pack up the instruments and put away the chairs, stands, and instruments.
