A setting of the eponymous E. E. Cummings poem.
No. 66 in the 100 Poems project.
The orchestra part reads:
Each player spontaneously chooses a pitch and holds that pitch for the duration of the work, following the crescendi and decrescendi indicated in the score.
The arc of the orchestra part is a long crescendo from nothing to piano then back to nothing.
The soprano’s part is written in standard notation and is marked by long-held notes and large leaps.
