to Mitch

  (2013)

Synopsis

to Mitch is a work based on a scene from Tennessee Williams’  A Streetcar Named Desire. In this scene (scene 3), Blanche is telling Mitch about her life back in Mississippi, following an altercation with Stanley and his poker buddies. She’s clearly enamored with Mitch (or perhaps only trying to reel him in with her charm). This is where the song picks up. The text, written by me, is as follows:

The light in you, the light in you
Always, always
It shines from you, the light in you
Always, always

I can see in your eyes
The green of a perfect meadow
The blue of the perfect sky

The light in you, the light in you
Always, always
I find in you a kind of you
Always, always

I can see in your brow
Confusion and the world we live in
Made lighter by the blue of your eyes
